Whether we prepare for the next day’s game, analyze our just concluded fight or, for older generations, analyzing the adjourned position, we are all familiar with the magnetic attraction of our favorite game. Depending on the concrete circumstances, it’s a mixture of hope and fear with respect to the near future, joy, satisfaction or bitter disappointment caused by our strengths and weaknesses, pushing us to move the pieces around until complete physical exhaustion or literally falling asleep.
The “Late chess evening” concept is illustrated by Mariya Yugina in one of her latest paintings.
